Following in the footsteps of many other cities in Ohio (including Dayton), Tipp City has launched a new initiative to bring more tourism to the area — and it comes in a plastic cup.

In August, the DORA (Designated Outdoor Refreshment Area) program was approved by a vote of 4-3 by the Tipp City Council. Upon implementation, the DORA program would allow designated businesses to sell their alcoholic beverages in to-go cups and customers would be permitted to walk around in the downtown area, within the limits of the accompanying signage posted, with their drinks in hand. The DORA district launched on Friday, Oct. 2.

Tipp City’s DORA is located on Main Street between the Tipp Roller Mill, located just beyond the intersection of First Street and Main Street, and the railroad tracks that fall between Fourth Street and Fifth Street. Small portions of First, Second and Third Street will also be within the borders of the DORA program. Signs will be posted along the route so customers are made aware of these DORA borders.

Customers will be able to take advantage of DORA on Monday through Thursday from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m., on Friday and Saturday from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. and on Sunday from noon to 8 p.m.

While in the DORA district, customers are only permitted to walk around with alcohol purchased from one of the seven participating establishments that sell liquor in downtown Tipp City. No outside alcoholic beverages are permitted. Additionally, all purchased drinks must remain in the specialty Tipp City DORA cups, and not poured into another container. And finally, customers cannot take a beverage from one liquor-serving establishment into another, as liquor permits cannot cross and doing this could put the business at risk of losing its liquor license. Due to the COVID pandemic, the DORA cups cannot be reused after one use.

- Support local businesses by purchasing a drink at a participating Tipp City DORA location and explore the district during the designated hours.

- Take a purchased drink into non-liquor serving establishments that have the green “DORA Beverage Welcome” sticker on the front of their business. Once you’ve finished your beverage or have entered an area that is not a part of DORA, throw your cup away in one of the many trash cans lining the downtown area.
